I felt like messing around w/ photoshop, so I endeavored to make a little bookmark icon for thinking-man.net

http://thehankerchief.homeip.net/cs/thinkingman%20icon.gif

It looks better on a light background. I assumed most people run with a grey windows theme:

Use it if you like, or start an icon competition.

Cheers,

Hanker,

Thank you for taking the time to make the icon. One question, what is it? Maybe it's my old eyes but I can't tell what it is...sorry.

Duh, it is the thinking man statue painted to look like a CT/T... just very very small :-)

Here's the image I started with:
http://homepages.cae.wisc.edu/~achuthm/GRAPHICS/thinking_man2.jpg

I had some earlier attempts that went a bit awry (ie, even more difficult to tell). 16x16 pixels is very difficult to work with.

My first try:

My second try:
http://thehankerchief.homeip.net/cs/thinkingman%20icon%20attempt1.gif

Anyway, here's a sample of some other low-res graphics I've done:
http://thehankerchief.homeip.net/cs/lowressample.gif
The top row is actual size, the leftmost characters were done in 16x16 and the one on the right is a 32x32. I blew them up to double size, so you could actually see what they are (if you're running in large desktop resolution like me: 1600x1200).

Cheers,

Although I must admire your beautiful job. I must say that it is a tad bit too small. My artistic opinion is that spaces betwen the bicep and the rest of the arm needs to be enlarged as well does the space between the chest and the leg, that could also go for the space between the neck and hand. I realize that that may not be within the realm of possibility, but still I must say that it is still a smashing job.

Today I was traipsing along on the 'net and found a little link to Garry's Mod, which remided me that you can pose CSS models and take screenshots. So I tried that, but the latest Valve update broke gmod, so I could only use hosties.

Here's what I got:

Gee, Hanker, you've really put in some creativity and effort above and beyond the call of duty!

Now for my humble observation - the hosty looks like he's...umm...*picking* rather than thinking. Perhaps it was a Freudian slip on your part, deeply rooted in your player name?

If you can tweak the model a bit I think you've got a winner there!

"Freudian slip" - Lol, nice one! Sniffle, scratch scratch :-)

I'm not sure how to make the fingers curl.. that'd be the best, but I think I found a mod that will let me get a Terrorist model into gmod.

Edit: Yup, here we go:

I started with this:

and clipped and scaled it to these:

http://thehankerchief.homeip.net/cs/TMicon4.1.gif , http://thehankerchief.homeip.net/cs/TMicon4.2.gif

I like these two best of all. Now to see if making them transparent ruins it :-)
Here's a preview of transparent and non-transparent based on how they'd look in my favorites menu:
