Hey

I've been playing on the office/dust/millitia server for awhile now and its a great server. However, whenever the map is millitia, my ping is always very high (above 60). ON the office or dust map, my ping goes down to like 30. Does anyone know the reason and solution to this problem?

Please let me know. Thanks

Mike

We believe that Clan servers might be overloading there servers and this might be why! However below 100 is very good and of no concern!

lol im always at 40-80 and im fine so 100 shouldnt be bad..but, the map militia has a lot of new effects (hi-dynamic range lighting, swaying bushes, running water) so this also drives u the ping

militia runs better than office imo. Better fps, not as many phys objects going nuts all the time etc etc..

guess machines are differant :P

Hey, just curious... does your ping ever settle back down after you've played a few rounds? Sometimes, like i think some posted earlier, when your comp goes to cache some graphics or render them and post them in memory your ping may go higher for a bit as it is using some CPU to post this information (granted there is a lot of it) into mem. This could be some of it... and say you are in office and nade the computer desk or supply rooms... my ping may go up a for a bit as all of that phys and flying stuff needs to be kept track of... otherwise one person woudl be stumbling over filecabinets that aren't even there to everyone else. :) Usually I run 60-80 latency regardless of the Think server.

Sincerely,

Noob

Ummmmm, it depends on the map. For example in office, when I am connnected, my ping goes to like 90. But after 1 round it goes back down to 40. And yeah, when a nade blows a desk or supplies my ping goes up to 80 then goes back down. But on millitia, my ping stays at like 90 and when materials are blown by a nade, ping goes to like 130.

I'm not how permanent gfx res is tied to your latency... but let's jsut go with your base ping of like 70-80... which is basically what I get... Here is an important detail often overlooked... if you are on a wifi network... your upstream will be greatly compromised... usually downstream you get your max speed... usualy 50mbs or someting like that... now my laptop is wifi so my latence on the think servers avgs around 80 or 90... however if I hardwire (ethernet cable) directly to my router.. i connect at 100mbs so my latency goes down... I'm not sure if youare on a wifi netowrk or not.. but it could be some of your high ping woes... Also, any filesharing, xfire, ventrilo activity will eat up bandwidth and may cause as much as lag spikes.. ventrilo only uses bandwidth intermittently when check who is on or off and what room... and then a lot when you talk and it sends the sound byte... xfire is intermittent and dependant upon the refresh rate... unsure if it is adjustable or not... for all intents and purposes I would try shutting down most any other progy that may use internet and see what you get... I'll dink around and see what I can come up with as a solution with ports or throttling etc...

This prolly didn't help much but it is a start.
